Contextual research for 'Future Shorts' film night promotion

I think that the use of films strip works really well to very easily and succinctly communicate the theme of cinema. The style of design mimics Saul Bass which also implies a cinematic theme due to his well known film credit designs. Stylistically, the design also has a hand-made feel to it, and along with the restricted colour palette implies a lo-fi/D.I.Y aesthetic associated with the punk era. In the context of Leeds student culture which is the target audience for this brief, this would suggest a student driven, independent night. I also think that the diagonal lines of the film reel work really well and provide an interesting platform for the text information.

This second film poster is actually for another film night that has been put on as part of the festival. I thought it was interesting how the designer has used the logo, removing the white box from behind it and altering the colour scheme so that it works better with the design style of the poster.
